Takes great pleasure in inviting you to
HARIPRASAD SE 'HARI PRASAD'
a Special
Flute Recital by
Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia
(Internationally renowned exponent of the Bansuri or Bamboo Flute)
About the Artist
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia surprisingly does not come from a long lineage of flautists. A vocal music student of Pandit Raja Ram of Benares, he went on to learn flute with Pandit Bholanath and later under Shrimati Annapurna Devi of the Maihar Gharana, while at a job in AIR Bombay.
Over a lifetime of performances throughout the world, Panditji has become one of India's most-respected classical musicians, and a proud recipient of several awards, including the National Award of the Sangeet Natak Academy and Konark Samman, and honourable titles such as Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Panditji has been honoured by the Dutch Royal family as well as by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of France. He was recently bestowed the Honorary Doctorate by the North Orissa University for his unparalleled role and contribution to the world of Indian Classical Music.
He has collaborated with several western musicians and has also composed music for a number of Indian films. He is also a dedicated teacher with several devoted art music students world-wide, many of whom are beginning to make their mark on the concert stage.
