“Ai Mann! Ho Jaa Magan!”

10th December 2005 at K.C. College Auditorium, Mumbai

Chinmaya Swaranjali (Music wing of Chinmaya Mission), Mumbai, organised an evening of soulful music, titled ‘Ai Mann! Ho Jaa Magan!!’ on 10th December 2005 at the Rama Watumall Auditorium, KC College, Churchgate. While several light and sound shows (popularly called Soul Song Nites) have been held in the past by the CHYK, this one, by Chinmaya Swaranjali, was with a difference. It had all the components of a soul song nite – melodious bhajans, slide shows, dances, etc., but in addition, it also had pieces of classical music rendition in between the bhajans. The main artistes were Smt. Pramodini Rao (vocal) and Shri Himanshu Nanda (flute). The programme was conducted under the loving guidance of Smt. Susheela Acharya, a veteran of many such programmes in Mumbai.

The programme started with Pramodini’s rendering of Raag Bhoop followed by Himanshu’s flute recital in Raag Hamsadhwani. The programme proceeded with a string of soulful bhajans beautifully interspersed with flute recitals, enthralling the audience. If Pramodini’s bhajans – supported by melodious singers of the Chinmaya Swaranjali – describing the glories of the Lord brought one closer to the Sagun Swaroop, Himanshu’s flute brought them closer to the Nirgun Swaroop. Overall, the entire audience was soaking in the ‘Ananda’ aspect of the Lord.

Providing support and enhancing the programme were wonderful dances by Yuva Kendra members and Bala Vihar children. The slides, lending visual life to the songs, gently made their slow appearances in the background. The narration by teenagers added spice to the whole show.

The programme was graced by the presence of Pujya Swami Brahmanandaji. Speaking on the occasion, Swamiji expressed his delight, while also feeling sorry that Guruji (Swami Tejomayanandaji) could not attend the programme. Appreciating that the programme involved all members of the Chinmaya Family – Study Group, CHYK and Bala Vihar, he pointed out that the whole family has now grown into a large organisation and one should keep coming together on such occasions. Calling Amma (Susheela Acharya) a genius, he remembered her many contributions to the Mission and appreciated the fact that the work was being carried forward by her children and grandchildren. He invoked the blessings of Gurudev on all.

The programme was planned in aid of Chinmaya Arogya Seva project. This project is run by the Doctors of Chinmaya Mission, wherein they conduct free eye and multiple-diagnostic camps, giving treatment to the under-priviledged sections of the society in remote areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat. They have been conducting 3 to 4 multi-diagnostic camps and about 6 eye camps per year on an average. More than 1200 fully-successful eye operations with intra-ocular implantations have been conducted in the MD Hospital, Pardi, Gujarat, by our committed doctors. Dr. Nitin Balakrishnan gave a brief presentation on the yeoman work done by the doctors, during the programme.

Just as the doctors brought relief and smiles to a number of needy, by treating them with their love and care, Chinmaya Swaranjali also brought joy and delight to all those who attended the programme. All of us keep repeating “May thy grace and blessings flow through us to the world around us”… This was one occasion when we saw it happening, both, through the doctors as well as through the Swaranjali team.
